CIArb Indonesia Hosts Reception for Practitioners from Across Asia, Strengthening Arbitration Networks

MediaJustitia.com: The Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb) – Indonesia Chapter The hosting a Reception between members to expand their professional networks through an interactive networking session on Friday (6/9/24) at the Alila SCBD Hotel, Jakarta.

The activity was opened with a speech by the co-Chair of CIArb Indonesia Chapter, Ilman Rakhmat. Ilman explained that the Reception concludes the-two-days CIArb Young Members Group (YMG) East Asia Branch Annual Conference. 

“Incidentally, it concludes a week of full intewe used to call it as an official Indonesian arbitration week. CIArb has been around in Indonesia for some quite of time, we have conducted courses since 2003 from entry level to fellowship program. It is our pleasure to have everyone here and we hope that this would be a perfect opportunity to unite, to maintain your connection, and to make a new ones,” said Ilman

The reception was also attended by various practitioners from Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, Philippines, and Taiwan. Windri Marieta, as the co – Chair of CIArb Indonesia Chapter hopes the members will enjoy the evening. 

In a separate interview with the Media Justitia team, Windri explained that CIArb, as an institution providing certification training on an international scale, contributes by connecting, introducing, and facilitating the transfer of knowledge among practitioners. This is exemplified by today’s reception event.

The reception was also attended by Karen Mills, representing CIArb (EAB) Main Committee and Frans H. Winarta, the Co-chairman and Founder of the Indonesian Chapter of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (CIArb). On the same occasion, CIArb Indonesia Chapter gave Karen and Frans Winarta a token of appreciation for their amazing work and dedication to the advancement of arbitration community at large, both in Indonesia and beyond.

“I hope you all have plans to continue in arbitration and become, eventually, fellows of the Chartered Institute so that you can arbitrate all over the world. It’s really been a pleasure to meet some of you and I’m very appreciate that many of you are not even from Indonesia. It’s really nice that this event has occurred,” said Karen.

In accordance with that, Frans Winarta hopes that CIArb Indonesia Chapter will improve the situation because arbitration is required at this moment, not only to place SIAC into Jakarta, but to make arbitration as number one in Indonesia. 

The reception continued with a door prize drawing, dinner, and networking session, accompanied by live music entertainment and a 360-degree photo booth.

CIArb Young Members Group (YMG) East Asia Branch Annual Conference

Held in a hybrid manner, the 5th Annual Conference carries the theme “Young Practi Venturing Into the Future: Multiple Paths in International Arbitration” by presenting several panelists from various countries. 

The panelists who attended were leading experts from various backgrounds, including international law firms, academics, and in-house counsel from multinational companies. They shared their views and experiences on how arbitration can adapt to changing global dynamics, including technological developments and the increasing volume of cross-border disputes. 

By holding this event, CIArb Indonesia Chapter and CIArb YMG East Asia Branch shows their commitment to continue playing an active role in advancing arbitration practices in the Asian region.
